I’m most inspired by natural landscapes and have a hyper awareness of the role light plays in our experience of the world around us. “Conversations with God” is a collections inspired by a childhood memory. When I saw bold beams of sunlight breaking through clouds as a child, I thought, “Wow, God must be talking to someone over there. I wonder what it’s like to stand in that light…”
This new collection of three pieces is an extrapolation of that memory, subtly conveying the awe, openness, and trust that a journey of faith invites. Throughout the painting process, I reflected on how I’ve experienced this light differently in my life. Sometimes it feels like the light is distant and I have more questions than answers. Other times the path to the light requires courage to venture through dark waters. The best of times feel like a peaceful walk through the woods; a gentle invitation to simply enjoy the light’s warmth.
Each of this collection’s pieces is composed to evoke a different experience, placing emphasis on the distance of the light rays from the viewer. Yet, no matter the vantage point, the light is always there.
I named this Summer 2026 collection “Conversations with God” nodding to my experience of wonder as a child while exploring thoughts around God’s invitation to enjoy creation and step into the light.
The original oil paintings are also available.
They will be on display at my upcoming show on Thursday, August 27 at Soul Ease Spa in Boise.
